On a seemingly typical Monday morning, I pulled my back. Initially, the pain wasn’t too bad—I instinctively placed my hand on the sore spot and connected with Reiki, allowing its natural flow to bring relief. Feeling a bit better, I walked to my office and got to work. But when it came time to stand up, the pain intensified.
Determined to heal, I decided to do a full self-Reiki session on my Reiki bed. While Reiki was flowing, I felt great—so much so that I recorded a video for social media. However, as soon as the session ended, I found myself unable to walk home and had to be driven back.
My body was clearly telling me to pause and rest, but I didn’t listen. That night, I requested distance healing and optimistically thought that three days would be enough to recover. Yet, by day three, I was drained, unable to even muster the energy for another video update. It wasn’t until I truly surrendered to rest—no work, no house chores, just me and my recovery—that I began to heal.
By day five, after fully embracing rest and allowing my body to recuperate, I felt much better. I was even able to attend a women’s networking event and prepare for an outdoor Reiki event the following day.
Reflecting on the experience, I realize I was fortunate. Reiki, which I practice regularly, undoubtedly helped ease the pain and accelerate my healing. But this incident also reminded me of the importance of listening to our bodies. I took my body for granted, pushing it to keep going when it was clearly asking for rest. This was a humbling lesson: never ignore the signs your body gives you. Rest is as vital a part of healing as any other practice.
